Endorsements Come as Hurricane Season Starts, Highlighting Continued Urgent Need for Investment in Resilient Infrastructure and Communities

Member-Driven PAC Ranks Brad Lander First for Mayor, Endorses Candidates in 22 City Council Races

Previous Endorsements Can Be Found Here.

NEW YORK – Resilience PAC, the city’s first political action committee focused exclusively on building climate resilience and ensuring equitable and expansive adaptation to climate change, today announced its endorsements for the 2025 Democratic primary, including current New York City Comptroller Brad Lander for New York City Mayor. The PAC also endorsed current Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine for comptroller, as well as endorsements in key borough president and City Council races.

“As hurricane season kicks off — which, apparently, is news to President Trump’s FEMA administrator — the need for investments in resilient infrastructure and communities has never been more urgent,” said Frank Avila-Goldman, a resident of a flood zone and spokesperson for Resilience PAC. “Thankfully, here in New York City, we have a deep bench of leaders who know just how important this mission is. We’re proud to endorse some of these leaders today, and we’re looking forward to how they’ll help shape our city’s future as we continue to navigate the climate crisis.”

“It’s a crisis that impacts every aspect of our lives — including issues that voters have at the top of their minds when they go into their polling places,” continued Avila-Goldman. “Take housing affordability, for example. According to an April report from the Regional Plan Association, more than 80,000 homes in and around New York City will be lost to floods over the next 15 years — that’s the same number of homes, in the same timespan, that the much-heralded City of Yes/City for All rezoning plan is projected to create.”

Resilience PAC is led by experts in infrastructure, climate adaptation, resilience, and urban planning. Through extensive research and interviews, the PAC found that the endorsed candidates possess deep knowledge of the risks climate change poses in New York City, have strong positions on actions needed to mitigate these risks, and offer holistic solutions that simultaneously address social, ecological, and physical vulnerabilities. Most importantly, they demonstrate their understanding of the intersection between the issues of climate change and social equity, and present solutions that solve for climate change by building urban resilience in partnership with the communities who are most affected.

The PAC endorsed and ranked the following candidates:

  1. Brad Lander

About Resilience PAC:

The New York City Panel on Climate Change projects that we will see three to six feet of sea level rise, and an increased frequency of heat waves, which, left unabated, will exacerbate inequity. The members of Resilience PAC believe that we must solve all these issues, to solve one. The PAC will achieve this by supporting candidates who commit to 1) Embed climate science and equity in all land use policies and capital planning, 2) Prioritize disinvested communities, and 3) Make government actions transparent and accountable. The organization’s full policy platform can be found here and below. And a list of the founding members can be found here.
